Wildwood Restaurant

MissChief in Merseyside was invited down to The Wildwood Restaurant in Clayton Sq, Liverpool.

It was really strange walking into a restaurant located in what used to be the old entrance to Clayton Square, I was half expecting to look to my right and see the Disney store. The restaurant had a lovely rustic feel with lots of space including a deli. The music playing was The Postmodern Jukebox which kept us happily amused guessing what the songs were in between courses.

We were greeted by lovely smiling waitresses, they were friendly and the manager Gabie was very helpful giving tips on which choices to go for.

To start with we had a glass of house red wine each – Carignan Grenache, Languedoc- Roussillon, France (£8.90). A lovely wine, quite fruity and bright.

This was served with mozzarella and garlic bread with caramelized onions (£5.75). The bread was a lovely soft dough, not too crispy like some breads. It was a generous size and the caramelized onions kept a lovely sweetness to the flavor.

We then had some water clean our palette (Mineral Water 500ml £2.55) before tucking into our beautifully presented mains.

My main of choice was my favourite dish, Sirloin Steak 8oz with peppercorn sauce, rocket and French Fries (15.95), it was so delicious you could taste the charcoal grill and the peppercorn sauce, where some sauces can be quite bland this was just right.

My boyfriend opted for the Philly Steak & Cheese Sandwich (£10.95). The marinated steak was so tasty and cooked just right, it wasn’t too chewy or tough, just right covered with Monterey Jack cheese, fried onions, and mayonnaise in a brioche bun served with French fries.

For dessert we just couldn’t decide, so after some advice from the waitresses and Gabi we went for the chocolate honeycomb fudge cake with Ice cream (£5.95) portion size was large, the honeycomb in this desert gave it that extra flavor that you normally miss out on your average chocolate fudge cake, this is definitely worth a try.

We then tried the chocolate sundae (£5.95) Oreo biscuits, Malteasers, Baileys, fresh cream, chocolate sauce and chocolate ice cream. The baileys was pretty strong in this sundae. The cream was lovely and thick to mix this in with. A good tip was to empty this out onto a plate, then you can get the right mixture of bits you want.

To finish our evening at Wildwood, I was recommended the Limoncello Spritz cocktail – Limoncello, Prosecco and club soda (£6.95) which was so refreshing after all that desert.

My boyfriend opted for a latte (£2.80) although I have no idea how he could possibly fit this in his belly, we were so full.

Overall the food, atmosphere, staff and service was excellent, the portion sizes for the starter and desserts were a lot bigger than the main dishes and the total bill cost was £65.75.

Folk On The Dock

The first artists confirmed to appear on the free Dock Stage include the Brighton-based, multi-award winning band, MOULETTES, former Coral guitarist, Lee Southall – who recently released his debut, solo album, Iron In The Fire – and Anglo/Americana trio, Wildwood Kin, who will be releasing their new album just a few weeks prior to the festival.

Legendary radio presenter and LIPA patron, Janice Long will be returning to host the Dock Stage. Each day she will be introducing one new act of her own choice in a newly launched feature of ‘Janice Long Presents…’.

Folk on the Dock also incorporates The Liverpool Sea Shanty Festival, which continues to attract an impressive line-up of international performers. These include Belgium duo, 2sheets2thewind, all female Dutch choir, Viswjvenkoor, and, after celebrating 80 years since its original formation, Norwegian choir, Risor Shanty will also be performing. Seeing a welcome return to Folk on the Dock is local duo, Trim Rig and a Doxy, who will lead the Shanty Festival.
